(Thank you @wren for catching this one)
Turns out we gave OED credit for Merriam-Webster’s cameo. Oops! Everything’s corrected now.

(Thank you to my sister for questioning the same-year comparison)
Two events shared the same date, but the code threw a fit about their order. Now it’s chill with either arrangement.

Clippy's birthday was mistakenly reported as one year early. Several sources disagree on Clippy's birthday, and here's why.
Clippy was released as "Clippit" with Microsoft Office 97. Naturally, sources decided 1997 was Clippy's debut year.
But, during this period, like vehicles, software branded with a year was often released prior to that year. Office 97 was released in 1996 (November 19th, 1996 to be exact).
Why then do some sources cite Clippy as a 1995 invention? I suspect because software at the time had long, drawn out release cycles and development of Clippy and possibly early test versions of the digital assistant were observed in 1995.
